MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1.  Qualifications

The membership of the Chapter shall consist of all persons who are members at the adoption of these bylaws and any other persons who may be admitted to membership in such manner and under such requirements prescribed by the policies of the Board of Directors.

Application for membership shall be made to the Board of Directors.  If the applicant meets eligibility guidelines, they shall become a member upon payment of the membership fee.

No person shall, on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, age, physical impairment, religion, marital status, veteran status, or sexual orientation, be denied any of the rights and privileges accorded all members and appointed or elected officials through the bylaws of the Chapter.

SECTION 2.  Professional Membership

Professional membership in the Chapter refers to:

  • Individuals engaged in the profession of human resource management or anyone of its specialized functions and faculty members of accredited colleges and universities who are responsible for educating in the area of human resource management or anyone of its specialized functions.

  • Individuals interested in advancing the purposes of the Chapter, willing to subscribe to the bylaws, and are interested in the field of human resource management or anyone of its specialized function, but not actively engaged in these areas.

SECTION 3.  Student Membership

The Chapter strives to promote development and education within every phase of the human resources.  Therefore, members of approved student human resource-related associations or individuals enrolled as a student in a human resource-related degree program at the post-secondary level are eligible to be non-voting student members of the Chapter.

SECTION 4.  SHRM Membership

A minimum of 30% of the total membership of the Chapter must be SHRM members in good standing.  Members of the Chapter are encouraged to become members of SHRM.  However, members who do not elect SHRM membership shall retain equal rights and responsibilities with the Chapter.

SECTION 5.  Dues

Annual membership dues for both professional memberships and student memberships shall be established for the next year by the Board of Directors prior to the publication and/or distribution of renewal notices.  Membership dues are to be paid annually, with renewal notices distributed no later than December for the next Chapter year.

A transfer of membership may occur mid-year without paying additional dues if the membership was sponsored by the member's organization and the member leaves the organization or is transferred.  The new member will be required to pay dues in accordance with Chapter bylaws the following year.

All money collected through Chapter dues will be used to defray the expenses of the Chapter.  No member, officer or Board member shall receive compensation for services rendered to the Chapter.  Gifts for recognition of service may be given. 

SECTION 6.  Voting

Each professional member of the Chapter shall have the right to cast one (1) vote on each matter brought before a vote of the members.  Student members are not eligible to vote.

Members represented in person at a meeting shall constitute a quorum.  The vote of the majority of Chapter member present at a meeting shall be necessary for the adoption of any matter voted on by the members.

SECTION 7.  Termination of Membership

Membership in the Chapter may be terminated for non-compliance with any of the provisions of the bylaws of the Chapter or SHRM's Code of Ethical and Professional Standards by a majority vote of the board members present at a Board of Directors meeting.
